Simeon Eugene Nichols III

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our patriarch, Simeon Eugene Nichols III (“Gene”), born March 12, 1938 in Houston, Texas to the late Simeon Eugene Nichols Jr. and Nicholina Theresa Nichols. Gene was called home on Monday, May 23, 2022 in Houston. Gene is awaited in heaven by his parents, his sister and her husband Eileen and Tony Frascino, brother John David Nichols, brother-in-law Jerry Jackson and nephews Michael Walker and Ricky Frascino. Gene will be forever cherished and remembered by his wife of 54 years, Carlota S. Nichols, his daughters, Cynthia Nichols-Murray and her husband, Dylan, and Veronica Pullicino and her husband, Marcus; his son Simeon Eugene Nichols IV and his wife, Susy; and his much-adored grandchildren Reid, Landen, Emma, Declan, Aiden and Owen who lovingly called him, Papa Geno. Gene was blessed with a large and loving family, born second of nine children. He is also survived by his brother Mike Nichols and his wife, Kay; and sisters, Marie Jackson, Carolyn Nichols, Joanie Lipp and her husband, Paul, Nicky Nichols and Barbie Walker and her husband, Doug; as well as his uncle, Rod Nichols and his many nieces and nephews and their children. Gene was immersed in the Catholic community that would be his lifelong support from an early age. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 803, and was a parishioner of St Thomas More for more than 50 years. He graduated from St Thomas High School, Class of 1956, and went on to study at the University of St Thomas before serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Ajax stationed in Okinawa, Japan. It was here that he was introduced to his lifelong career as an electrical draftsman, returning to the University of Houston for further studies. His career spanned 45+ years and sent him on adventures across the miles from Texas to California, up the Alaska Pipeline, down the Gulf of Mexico and spanned the Pacific Ocean out to the shores of West Africa. When he wasn’t volunteering in his community, swinging a golf club or coaching Little League, you could always find him tinkering in his garage. Gene loved to laugh, joke and tell stories surrounded by the people he loved. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the outpouring of prayer, love and support during this time. A visitation will begin at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft Street in Houston, Texas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 2, 2022 also at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. A reception with the family will follow. The Rite of Committal will be held at 9:15 a.m., Friday, June 3, 2022 at Houston National Cemetery.
