Gustav E. Arndt, Jr.

Gustav “Gus” E. Arndt, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, was called home to Heaven on August 14, 2017 at the age of 81. Gus was born in Carmine, Texas on December 17, 1935, the eighth born of eleven children of Gustav and Ella Arndt. He was bestowed the distinction of “Junior” and was raised through the post-depression era when the times were lean. He was a share-cropper’s son and along with his siblings learned about hard work at an early age. He left home to move to Houston in 1954 to begin his life beyond the country style of his raising. He married Margaret Ann Sicinski on June 15, 1957 and began 60 years of marriage with the mother of his children. Gus and Margaret have three children, two sons and a daughter. Steven is the oldest and he and his wife Renee have three children, Kristen and her husband Matt Weibel and son Hagen, Clayton and Cameron. Brian, his second born, is married to Yvonne and they have three children, James Tammaro, Selena and BriAnn. Karen is married to Russell Fishbeck and they have three sons, Kevin with son Wyatt and daughter Peyton, Keith and wife Nichole and Kyle. Gus is also proceeded by his sisters Flora, Mary with husband John Prestwood and brother Ed. Blessed with being born into a large family he has numerous nieces and nephews as well. Over the years Gus loved spending time at his bay house in Bayou Vista to get away from the hustle and bustle. When you found him watching television he most likely had on a sporting event of the season. He loved watching all sports but especially football and his “Cowboys.” Everyone who knew and worked with Gus would always say that he was the hardest working man they ever seen. He thrived in his work and had a successful career in the construction industry. His experience was vast and maintained a work ethic second to none. A Rosary in his remembrance will be held Thursday evening, August 17, at 7:30 pm at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 6622 Haskell St., his parish for 56 years. The service is open to everyone. Following the Rosary, anyone wanting to say a few words in remembrance is welcomed to do. His Funeral Mass will be on Friday, August 18 at 1:30 pm, also at St. Theresa’s, with the Rite of Committal following at Woodlawn Cemetery, Houston, Texas. Gus was loved dearly and will be deeply missed. God brought another good man to his home and we will find Gus there waiting for those who follow. God Bless, we love you Dad.
