Betty Roddy Bezemer

Betty Roddy Bezemer of Houston, Texas went to be with the Lord on March 31, 2019 at the age of 72. She was born on April 22, 1946 to Ray T. and Katherine Dickinson of Dallas, Texas. Betty grew up there and attended Hockaday and Southern Methodist University in Dallas. She was extremely passionate about her family, serving others, real estate, travel, snorkeling, and dancing! She never met a stranger and just loved everyone. She especially loved her role as Nana and she had a vivacious personality with a contagious laugh that made others laugh right there with her. Outside of her personal life, Betty was a business pioneer! She and her ex-husband, George Roddy, founded one of Texas’ first Commercial Real Estate Information & Reporting firms in the 1970’s. They went on to open several other offices in other states. In the early 1990’s, she transitioned into residential real estate where she spent 27 years with Keller Williams serving the Houston market. During her career there, she was recognized countless times for a number of different achievements. Due to her expertise in the real estate industry, she was often quoted by newspapers and magazines and interviewed by major TV networks and business radio outlets in the Houston market. In 1997, she was diagnosed with breast cancer; yet, that didn’t slow her down, career wise. She became a huge cheerleader for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, raising money and awareness the last 20 years. She may not have ‘raced’ but showed up for the races and was also behind the scenes hard at work and always ‘pinked’ out! She sat on their Education Committee as a Member of their Houston Chapter from 1998-2016 and their Advisory Council from 2017-2018. In 1999, Betty was the first recipient of the KW National Robert B. Carter Inspiration Award where she was honored because she never quit working during her struggle with breast cancer and only missed 4 days of work during a 15-month period of treatment and surgery. She also donated a portion of every closing transaction to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Betty was a free-spirited soul who showed care and consideration for anyone she met. Her servant heart was always present and her life was a living example of one of her favorite Bible verses, Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.” Betty is survived by her husband, Willem Bezemer of Houston; sister, Dana Giddens Tauzin of Fairview; three children of Frisco (Krista Roddy Barner, George Roddy, Jr. and Rebecca Roddy Pulte); along with her six amazing grandchildren (Lauren Barner (19), Preston Roddy Pulte (18), Ryan Roddy (17), Jackson Barner (16), Brooke Roddy (14), Ian Pulte (13); and great-grandchild, Ridge Neele Barner (just 6 weeks old). For those wishing to pay their respects and to say goodbye to Betty, a wake will be held from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Joseph J. Earthman Generations, 234 Westcott Street in Houston, Texas. To honor her memory, please join us in a ‘Celebration’ of her life on Tuesday, April 9th, at The Ballroom at Bayou Place located at 500 Texas Street, Houston 77002 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Susan G.
